1958 era photographs of Imperial Beach

Imperial Beach resident Ralph Evans recently came upon some photographs that were probably taken in about 1958. Ralph comes from very good historical early Imperial Beach stock, as he was brought up right here in town. His father still lives in the area of the 1200 block of 11th Street, where Ralph was raised, and where the elder Evans has lived since 1941. When Ralph came upon the scene they lived  in the 100 block of Daisy Ave., just a stones throw from the beach.  His grandparents and great-grandparents were early comers to the area we know of as Palm City.
Ralph was kind enough to offer these photographs, and the captions, to the web page for our historical interest and enjoyment. If you would like to e-mail Ralph, you may do so.
Ralph, we thank you for sharing your memories of the way it used to be in IB.

<<  Looking northeast. The bottom floor of that building was split between the Patio Cafe and the Russo family's store. The top floor was the Russo's residence. Today that whole bottom floor is the Ye Olde Plank Inn.

>> Facing southeast. The cars you see are parked along the 700 block of what used to be 1st St.
